Courses must bring back cash - as my friend's unhappy raceday experience showed

Newmarket’s July course is one of the very best in Britain, if not the world (perhaps some local bias there), and the family enclosure at the track is popular throughout the summer with loads of activities for kids laid on, a huge playground and a generally laid-back atmosphere.

Your raceday experience is not as intense as it is in the other enclosures – you are some way from the paddock and the bars – but it more than serves its purpose for anyone wanting a casual day watching quality horses run while keeping young children entertained.

So why were some people left frustrated and angered with their experience in this area over the summer? What prompted them to gather their things and leave well before racing ended? Answer: the unwillingness to accept cash.
