Council control of Musselburgh would be an unmitigated disaster

I wrote to the Racing Post a few months ago regarding Musselburgh racecourse when I had hoped the forthcoming Scottish council elections would solve some of the problems facing the course.

Regrettably, a few months on the situation has deteriorated to an all-time low as the new councillors who, in my opinion, like their predecessors, know little about racing and even less about running a racecourse but are determined to take control of and run Musselburgh.

Why, I and many others are asking, is the council so determined to take control? Is it because it sees Musselburgh as a cash cow to asset strip and use the profits to bridge the council deficit?
