Constitution Hill's legacy is on the line - can he really be classed as an all-time great on what he's done so far?
David Jennings believes that Thursday's Aintree Hurdle is a huge day in the life of the Seven Barrows superstar

So here's the deal. Constitution Hill should have the same amount of Champion Hurdles as Istabraq but doesn't. He finds himself 3-1 down in that particular match and the clock is against him; it's ticking towards squeaky-bum time. His legacy is on the line. Can he really be classed as one of the greatest jumpers of the modern era on the body of work he has produced to this point?
He will be nine by the time next year's Champion Hurdle comes along and only two nine-year-olds have won the race since 1992 – Rooster Booster in 2003 and Hurricane Fly in 2013. That's just two in 33 years.
He does, of course, hold the track record at Cheltenham and there will probably never be a race won in a quicker time than 3min 44.35sec around the Old course given the increasing clamour for cut in the ground. That was the day he was compared to Golden Cygnet. That was the day the world was at his feet. That Supreme success was a surreal mix of facts and fantasy. It was almost too good to be true.
