First, let me come clean about my bias. I was a local steward for many years, and sat on the disciplinary panel and then also on the appeal board. I'm also a member of the Jockey Club. My thoughts are purely my own and have no input or representation from either they or the local stewards.

I've been watching with dismay the almost daily clashes between the BHA and various members of the racing profession.

In the past, when racing was run by the Jockey Club, not only did it cost around £30m less than today, but it was run by people whose passion was racing and who mostly did it for no financial reward. That is not to say that the Jockey Club got everything right, but did it really do a worse job than the current BHA?
