Bryony Frost dazzles again - and here's how racing creates more of those moments
This weekend we had the full range of what this great sport has to offer, from action over the Grand National fences to the Breeders' Cup. There was the sublime, such as Jose Ortiz's ride on Pizza Bianca, and the ridiculousness of the whole Modern Games palaver.
Underneath it all, however, there were four real moments that cut through. The absolute mess that was made of the Modern Games removal and reinstatement to win the Juvenile Turf obviously got people talking, as did the mastery of Messrs Appleby and Buick, who by landing three Grade 1s at the meeting, enjoyed a couple of days entirely in keeping with the rest of their year.
The other two moments that stood out for me were part of ITV's coverage. The first was an interview with Bryony Frost conducted by Natalie Green in which the rider was asked to relive the previous week's success at Down Royal on Frodon. From the challenge of setting the pace at a track she had never ridden, to the in-race emotions as Minella Indo and Galvin loomed upsides, through the delight of winning, Frost did what she does like no other and took you inside the moment in such an evocative and captivating way.
