A teenage jockey is going places - with a little help from his new friends
Promising 7lb claimer Connor Planas certainly read the script when he was signed up by the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai stable at Salisbury last month. Donning the logo of the horse feed supplier on his breeches for the first time, he promptly won the apprentice handicap it sponsored on Ajrad for Michael Attwater.
The 18-year-old, who has since reached 17 winners for the season, may have been doubly motivated after being surprised before racing when he was presented with his breeches by Ryan Moore – the rider on whom he models himself.
The signs are good as Planas shares the same agent as Moore in Tony Hind and, as well as getting a fair number of rides from his retained trainer Tom Clover, he has also been on the mark for George Boughey, Rod Millman and Alice Haynes.
