Following the controversy surrounding the void London National at Sandown on Saturday, two Racing Post writers give contrasting views on the incident.

Flags are not enough

The rules should have been adhered to and the jockeys certainly aren't blameless for continuing after the yellow stop flag had been waved in the London National.

However this is an issue which continues to dog British racing, that of a flag seemingly not always being a powerful enough indicator for those riding in the fast and furious event of a horserace. Flags did not do their job in the void Grand National in 1993.
