One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Thursday
Trainer
Andrew Balding has been in flying form since the resumption of racing and he has several opportunities to continue that run on day one of the July festival at Newmarket.
Royal Ascot winner Tactical (3.00) steps up to 6f in the Tattersalls July Stakes, having improved from his debut third to strike in the Windsor Castle, while Alounak (4.10) cannot be discounted in the Princess of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes. Balding is also represented by recent Chepstow maiden winner Damage Control (2.25) in the Bahrain Trophy Stakes.
Jockey
Jason Watson has enjoyed an excellent partnership with Roger Charlton, teaming up for Group 1 success with Quadrilateral, and is reunited with another Juddmonte filly in Pocket Square (2.40) at York.
Pocket Square was a Group 3 scorer last term and lines up in the Musidora Stakes, while Watson partners favourite Sardinia Sunset (2.05) in the Listed Marygate Fillies' Stakes for Roger Varian.
Horse
Highest Ground (3.15) looks likely to go off a warm favourite for the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes at York, in which he steps up to Group company for the first time.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt, who comfortably defeated the smart Waldkonig at Haydock last month, has always been highly regarded by connections. With Ryan Moore on duty at Newmarket for Ballydoyle, champion jockey Oisin Murphy takes the mount for the first time against the likes of Cormorant and Thunderous.
Race
The Princess of Wales's Stakes (4.10) is usually a competitive contest and has attracted an intriguing field of eight.
Three-time Group 2 winner Enbihaar heads the betting at 9-4, while dual Group 1 scorer Old Persian, Hardwicke Stakes runner-up Alounak and the unexposed Dame Malliot also feature. The race has a high-class honour roll including Big Orange, Hawkbill and Cavalryman.
