One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race for Saturday

Trainer

In Song For Someone, Tom Symonds might have a Unibet Champion Hurdle horse on his hands, and what's for certain is that the Herefordshire trainer has his string in fine form this season.

With four months still to go, he already has a career-best number of winners and will be eager to maintain his high strike-rate, which currently stands at 26 per cent.

He runs Hystery Bere (12.05) and Hollywoodien () on Sandown's card in the colours of Sir Peter and Lady Gibbings, owners of recent International Hurdle winner Song For Someone, who is a general 16-1 shot for the big one in March.

Jockey

Like Symonds, David Bass is a graduate of Nicky Henderson's revered Seven Barrows academy and he has flourished since linking up with Gloucestershire trainer Kim Bailey.

Such is their fruitful partnership, Bass will not mind the long trip to Ayr, where The Edgar Wallace () should have leading claims after his encouraging debut over hurdles at Ascot last time.

Those Tiger Feet is the jockey's other ride () and he was a course winner in November, so another bold display can be expected.

Horse

Paul Nicholls this week touched on the hefty price tags attached to most promising point-to-point recruits and Gentlemansgame, who makes his rules debut in , is certainly in that mould.

By Gentlewave, who was second to Dylan Thomas in the 2006 Irish Derby, the four-year-old – a handsome grey – romped clear to win a point at Curraghmore in October and within a week renowned talent scout Mags O'Toole had snapped him up for €250,000.

Owned by Robcour, he is trained by Mouse Morris and Rachael Blackmore rides him in a race that counts Grade 1 performers Fakir D'Oudairies and Wicklow Brave among its recent winners.

Race

Given the gruelling ground at Sandown, the Unibet Tolworth Novices' Hurdle (2.25) might not be the prettiest race to watch all season, but it will be worth keeping an eye on nonetheless.

Summerville Boy won the Grade 1 in 2018 before landing the Supreme at Cheltenham, and two years before that Yorkhill struck at Sandown and followed up in what was the Neptune at the festival.

The Harry Fry-trained Metier is set to start favourite, but Galice Macalo is an interesting contender for Jane Williams, whose son Chester rides.
