One jockey, one trainer, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday
Jockey
Apprentice Jane Elliott is enjoying a fine season and has the chance to shine in front of the ITV cameras aboard Proschema for boss Tom Dascombe in the Betfair Exchange Northumberland Plate (3.35 Newcastle).
Proschema steps up in trip to tackle the 2m½f Newcastle feature and runs on the all-weather for the first time, but appears to be hitting top form following a promising third of 15 at Newmarket last time.
The weekend does not end there for Elliott, who heads to Doncaster for three rides on Saturday evening prior to flying to Sweden to contest the Women Jockeys’ World Cup at Bro Park on Sunday, in which Georgia Cox and Sophie Ralston also feature.
Elliott said: "It's a good opportunity to get the ride on Proschema and I'm really grateful. If he settles on his first try at two miles he should have a massive chance.
"He has a lot of ability – as he showed as a three-year-old – and ran really well at Newmarket last time.
"It will be great to go and compete against the girls from around the world at Bro Park on Sunday. I've never been to Sweden but heard lots of nice things about the track!"
Trainer
Newmarket trainer James Tate is wasting no time in attempting to banish the Royal Ascot blues as stable stars Invincible Army and New Graduate are back in action after failing to trouble the principals last week.
Diamond Jubilee seventh Invincible Army (2.25 Newcastle) is favourite for the Group 3 Betfair-sponsored Chipchase Stakes, while New Graduate (3.25 Windsor) should be suited by good ground in the Listed GentingBet Midsummer Stakes after being stuck in the soft at Ascot.
Horse
The talented Wells Farhh Go returns to action for the first time since August in the four-runner Randox Health Fred Archer Stakes (3.50 Newmarket).
Tim Easterby’s stable star suffered a stress fracture during his preparation for the St Leger last season but boasts some strong form from last year, including when successful at this track in the Bahrain Trophy.
Race
The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (5.20 Curragh) promises to be a cracker with Epsom form to the fore.
Classic hero Anthony Van Dyck bids to emulate Galileo, High Chaparral and Camelot among others in completing the Derby double.
The Derby proved there is very little between the principals, though, and the reopposing Madhmoon and Broome should prove stern opposition.
