One jockey, one trainer, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday
Jockey
Aidan Coleman has been given the enviable task of riding Champion Hurdle heroine Epatante following the retirement of Barry Geraghty and the duo combine for the first time in Newcastle's Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle (2.05).
JP McManus's six-year-old has not been seen since streaking clear for a three-length win at the festival and takes on Sceau Royal and Silver Streak in a quality Grade 1.
Coleman also has a leading chance in the big handicap (3.15) on Newcastle's card with the Olly Murphy-trained The Butcher Said. The seven-year-old is stepping out of novice company after finishing an eyecatching third behind The Big Breakaway at Cheltenham this month.
The only other ride on the card for Coleman sees him sport the McNeill family silks again aboard Ewood Park in the 2m maiden hurdle (2.40).
Trainer
Saturday could be a huge day in the career of Scottish-based trainer
Harriet Graham who runs Aye Right in the prestigious Ladbrokes Trophy (3.00).
The seven-year-old is the stable flagbearer and heads south after two solid efforts in defeat – finishing second in a good handicap at Kelso before a fine third in the Grade 2 Charlie Hall at Wetherby. He looks a horse on the rise and is a key player in the day's feature event.
Horse
It is judgement day for Kim Bailey and those connected with Vinndication as they find out whether he will emerge as a Gold Cup contender.
He would need to put in a big run in the Ladbrokes Trophy (3.00) to cement his future in Graded company and he comes to this prestigious handicap with a leading chance after a fine second to Cyrname at Wetherby.
It is a tall order to strike off 11st 11lb but plenty fancy him to do so with his price continuing to shorten from the 8-1 available earlier this week.
Race
The Ladbrokes Committed To Safer Gambling Intermediate Hurdle (2.25) – more commonly known as the Gerry Feilden – is usually the starting point for smart hurdlers looking to break out and Saturday's edition looks packed with quality.
Marie's Rock, trained and ridden by last year's winning Epatante connections Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville, looks to stretch her unbeaten record to four on her seasonal return, taking on last-time-out winners Botox Has, Thyme White and Sebastopol.
