One jockey, one trainer, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

Jockey

Although 2020 July Cup-winning jockey Cieren Fallon is without a ride in the big one this year, he still has a strong book of four mounts who all have live chances.

The Queen's newcomer Blue Missile could get Fallon and trainer William Haggas off to a perfect start in the opening fillies' maiden (1.30), and the same pair will combine with likely favourites Kidwah and Montassib.

The former bids to extend her unbeaten run to three in the Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa Fillies' Handicap (2.05) while the latter aims to return to winning ways in the bet365 Bunbury Cup (3.50) after his own flawless record was ended at Royal Ascot.

Lion Of War looked hugely exciting when bolting up under Fallon at Newcastle last month and the son of Roaring Lion steps up in grade to contest the Group 2 Superlative Stakes (3.15).

Trainer

Charlie Appleby quickly got off the mark at Newmarket's July meeting with a couple of winners on Thursday and the Godolphin trainer has live Group 1 chances domestically and abroad on Saturday.

Platinum Jubilee 1-2 Naval Crown and Creative Force line up for the rematch in the Darley July Cup (4.25), while Frankie Dettori has been booked at Belmont to ride With The Moonlight and Nations Pride in the Belmont Oaks (9.06) and Derby (10.12) respectively.

Elsewhere, Appleby has Modern News in the Summer Mile (3.35) at Ascot with course-and-distance winner Victory Dance leading the market in the Superlative Stakes (3.15), his other Group 2 runner on the day.

Bay Of Honour (2.40) and Silent Film (3.50) offer realistic chances in the handicaps, while Wild Crusade and Warren Point face just one other rival in the Magnum Classic Ice Cream Handicap (4.10).

Horse

Away from the July course, Tim Easterby will be hoping Winter Power can get her season back on track at York.

The four-year-old disappointed when favourite for the Temple Stakes on her reappearance in May and finished well down the field in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out.

However, last season's Nunthorpe winner returns to her favourite venue as she drops in class for the John Smith's City Walls Stakes (4.40).

Winter Power has won three of her four starts on the Knavesmire, including when taking this Listed contest last year, and it will be interesting to see if familiar surroundings can spark a revival for the King Power-owned filly.

Race

The Darley July Cup (4.25) is the feature race of the July Cup meeting and the highlight of the week.

Only two of the 14 who line up for the £600,000 Group 1 sprint did not run at Royal Ascot, with all but one of those contesting the Commonwealth Cup or Platinum Jubilee.

Perfect Power and Godolphin's Naval Crown came out on top last month, although it is interesting that William Buick has opted to stick with Creative Force, who was just edged out by the latter at the royal meeting.

Australia's Artorius has stuck around to add some extra international flavour to the race, while Flaming Rib was supplemented and is one of many in the field hoping to reverse his Royal Ascot defeat.
