On a night where several former racehorses were crowned in their various disciplines at the Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket on Wednesday, the story of the RoR's Horse of the Year Monkerty Tunkerty shed intriguing light into how much energy and time goes into retraining these hugely versatile horses.

Jess Westwood, who rode the now 15-year-old to win four point-to-points and his first start under rules, admitted that 'Monkey' helped her to cope after suffering a second head injury in a point-to-point fall.

"I had a serious fall and was flown to hospital," she said. "It was my second serious head injury and for a time my left side was paralysed.
