One horse, one jockey, one trainer and one race to watch on Saturday
One horse
Nicky Henderson has previous when it comes to magnificent training performances – think fragile three-time Champion Hurdle hero See You Then and Sprinter Sacre's glorious comeback from a heart problem – and getting Might Bite back on track may be right up there in his career.
The handsome 2017 King George VI Chase winner went close to winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup the following spring and then bolted up in Aintree's Bowl, but last season was a write-off with heavy defeats and form figures of 57P.
He has, however, had an exhaustive summer MOT and returns against Gold Cup conqueror Native River in the Virgin Bet Price Boosts Many Clouds (2.40) at Aintree.
One jockey
Four-time champion jump jockey Richard Johnson is always worth watching and there is plenty of opportunity to get a glimpse of him with eight rides on Aintree's card.
He might be most looking forward to teaming up with Gold Cup companion Native River, who is blinkered for the first time, while Gordon Elliott – a big admirer of the rider – has booked him for Irish raider Alpha Des Obeaux in the Randox Health Becher Chase (1.30).
Harry Senior (11.30), Atlanta Ablaze (12.00) and Gavrocheka (2.05) look other mounts the 42-year-old jockey might relish.
One trainer
Northern jump racing seems to be enjoying something of a resurgence and Ruth Jefferson, based in North Yorkshire, has the chance to underline that point in stunning fashion with two Grade 1 runners at Sandown.
Return Ticket might be up against it on ratings and bookmakers' opinions in the Read Road To Cheltenham At Racingtv.com Henry VIII Novices' Chase (1.50), but the trainer's stable star Waiting Patiently will carry more support in the Betfair Tingle Creek (3.00).
High-class at his best, he has not shone on his last three starts, but may be a danger if the old engine can still purr.
One race
It could be argued – alongside the Betfair Chase and Ladbrokes Trophy – the Tingle Creek (3.00) is Britain's most prestigious pre-Christmas jumps event and this season's race looks right up to scratch.
Defi Du Seuil is favourite to emerge as a new star of the two-mile chase division, but popular golden oldie Un De Sceaux remains a respected rival, especially with race form of 12.
Champion trainer Paul Nicholls should also have 2017 winner Politologue in razor-sharp order and Champion Chase third Sceau Royal is a fine jumper in the right ground – a race fit to honour the swashbuckling Sandown lover of the 1970s after whom it is named.
