Horse

Paisley Park just about held on to defeat Thistlecrack at Newbury last month on his seasonal return and bids to follow that up in the Marsh Hurdle at Ascot (2.25) under Aidan Coleman.

The Emma Lavelle-trained seven-year-old was one of the big stories of last season, going unbeaten across his five runs culminating in a fantastic victory in the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, much to the delight of owner Andrew Gemmell.

At Ascot, he takes on five rivals and is long odds on to extend his winning run to seven.

Trainer

Paul Nicholls boasts a 18 per cent strike-rate at Ascot and the Ditcheat trainer saddles seven runners at the Berkshire track.

He has two runners in the Silver Cup (3.00) with the popular Black Corton, who has regular partner Bryony Frost on board, and last month’s Badger Beers winner Give Me A Copper.

Tamaroc Du Mathan and Scaramanga tackle the Betfair Exchange Trophy (3.35), and Nicholls will also be represented by Easyrun De Vassy (12.40), Adrien Du Pont (1.15) and My Way (1.50).

Jockey

Nico de Boinville has a fascinating book of rides at Ascot and bids to build on his impressive 27 per cent strike-rate at the course.

He teams up with the Ben Pauling-trained Kildisart in the Silver Trophy (3.00), the first time in which he will ride the seven-year-old, and looks to upset Paisley Park in the Marsh Hurdle with L’Ami Serge.

French Crusader is his partner in the Betfair Exchange Trophy, and De Boinville also bids for success aboard stablemates On The Blind Side, who runs in the 2m5f graduation chase (1.15), and Kobrouk, who goes for the 2m3f handicap chase (1.50).

Saturday's cards

Race

The most competitive race of the day looks to be the Betfair Exchange Trophy (3.35) at Ascot, in which 16 runners are set to line up for the prestigious Grade 3.

Former winners include 2017 Grand National runner-up Cause Of Causes and Brain Power, who landed the American equivalent this year.

Greatwood Hurdle fourth Quoi De Neuf heads the betting for Evan Williams, while recent course-and-distance scorer Not So Sleepy is an intriguing runner for Hughie Morrison.
