Had you told the connections of Euchen Glen when he made his comeback after 701 days off at the start of the season that he would be a dual Group 3 winner, they would have been gobsmacked.

However, the Jim Goldie-trained seven-year-old has staged a fine resurgence this autumn, including defeat of last year's St Leger hero Logician in the Cumberland Lodge Stakes before winning the Pravha Stakes in atrocious conditions at Newbury two weeks ago.

He makes a swift reappearance for one final hurrah this season as he bids for the Betfair November Handicap (3.15), but he is likely to need a career-best effort under Paul Mulrennan with lumps of weight to give to his rivals.

Jockey

William Buick's dogged pursuit of newly crowned dual champion jockey Oisin Murphy came up short at Newcastle last night, but he still has seven rides at Doncaster in a bid to end his season on a high.

Buick faced an uphill battle to overhaul Murphy and needed at least a Friday night double just to keep his championship hopes alive, but his rival was left with an unassailable lead when Buick's third ride of the evening Strong Steps finished down the field.

That shouldn't detract from what has been another stellar year for Buick, who rode Ghaiyyath to a sensational Group 1 hat-trick in the summer.

His best chance of adding to his 133 winners, already a personal record, may come aboard the Mark Johnston-trained two-year-old Immaculate in the 6f maiden stakes.

Trainer

Despite landing the Dewhurst Stakes with St Mark's Basilica, it has been a tough autumn for Aidan O'Brien, with the feed contamination fiasco over Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe weekend, the Fillies' Mile runners mix-up and the death of 2019 Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck after injury in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.

However, O'Brien has the chance to turn his fortunes around with some of his high-class superstars set to tackle the second day of the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland.

O'Brien has six runners, headlined by Magical and Mogul in the Breeders' Cup Turf (9.33). Circus Maximus runs in the Mile (8.15), and Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Peaceful in the Filly & Mare Turf (6.57).

The Coolmore team drew a rare blank at the meeting last year but a powerful squad could right that wrong this year.

Race

Sticking to the action in America, the Breeders' Cup Mile (8.15) is set to be one of the most fiercely contested races of the meeting, with top European Classic form set to be matched against the best American milers.

2,000 Guineas hero Kameko narrowly heads the betting in what will be his final run before he is retired, while Siskin, who was expected to take the mile division by storm after his impressive Irish 2,000 Guineas victory but has failed to win since, is set for stallion duties in Japan after this engagement.

Saturday's entries and cards

Also in the mix is the consistent Circus Maximus as well as four-time Grade 1 winner Uni, who defends the title she won in impressive fashion at Santa Anita last year.
