One horse

Trials day marks a key moment in Santini's career as he bids to stake his Gold Cup claims in the Paddy Power Cotswold Chase (2.25) at Cheltenham.

The Nicky Henderson-trained eight-year-old finished third in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle and second in the RSA Novices' Chase at the last two festivals and is a 9-1 shot to win the festival showpiece.

He will have to step up markedly on his narrow reappearance win at Sandown in November to win the Cotswold Chase let alone the Gold Cup, however, so it will be interesting to see how he fares.

One jockey

Any day when partnering Paisley Park is a big one for Aidan Coleman and the pair bid for consecutive wins in the galliardhomes.com Cleeve Hurdle (3.35) at Cheltenham.

Emma Lavelle's stable star returned with a length victory over Thistlecrack in the Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury in November and will take all the beating in this Grade 2 event.

Coleman's other mount also has leading claims as he is aboard Lalor, a market principal for the Grade 3 handicap chase (1.50).

One trainer

Phil Kirby unleashes his two stable stars as Top Ville Ben takes on Santini and co in the Cotswold Chase and Lady Buttons bids for back-to-back wins in the Yorkshire Rose Mares' Hurdle (2.40) at Doncaster.

Top Ville Ben has progressed nicely through the ranks, landing the Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase at Wetherby last time, while Lady Buttons heads back to Doncaster after a thrilling win in a Listed chase on Town Moor a month ago.

Also watch out for the Kirby-trained En Meme Temps (4.10) in the Cheltenham finale after a fine yard debut when a close second at Carlisle in October.

One race

Dynamite Dollars, Sceau Royal and Forest Bihan are the last three winners of the Napoleons Casino-sponsored Lightning Novices' Chase (12.55) at Doncaster and Saturday's renewal should be another cracker.

There may only be four runners but they are rated between 151 and 144 and Al Dancer is the one to beat on official marks.

You could not rule out any of the contenders, though, with Le Patriote, Lisp and Mister Fisher talented in their own right. This Grade 2 contest should provide clues for the Arkle and Grand Annual.
