AND so the list of the special is sadly shortened by a grim late-August reaping. A bitter harvest indeed.

With the death of the irreplaceable Tom O’Ryan the pulse of the north beats with less vigour and much laughter goes from life alongside him.

Irish by descent but very much a Yorkshireman, he was jockey, journalist, mentor, friend and seriously fine judge. But he was much more than the combination of all those things. Tom O’Ryan was simply a force for good. which is why in racing households across the land his death will fall hard and cut to the quick.
