Another chapter comes to a close - but the book is not over

An hour with Walter Swinburn is sufficient to reveal he remains at the mercy of his emotions. He is unsure quite what to think as he reflects on a chapter that will close when he relinquishes his trainers' licence at the end of the month.

There is sadness: "Of course there is. It has taken a while to build the team I wanted around me. I felt we did a lot of things right."

There is lament: "In the last few years I felt we were gathering momentum and were just waiting for a good horse. Stotsfold showed what we could do but we haven't been able to replace him."
