Those looking for early clues to potential Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival winners had to wait until Sunday for the strongest candidate to emerge with Lalor (160+) putting down a solid marker for the spring when running out a very impressive winner of the Racing Post Arkle Trophy Trial.

A good winner at Aintree in April, Sunday's win represented another significant step forward and in brushing aside smart rivals Dynamite Dollars (154) and Claimantakinforgan (151), he returned an RPR within 7lb of an average Arkle winner. That is no mean feat on his chasing debut.
