The jumps weighing room has lost one of its toughest and most resilient members following Kevin Jones's decision to draw a line under a career that lasted 13 years and included a similar number of injuries.

The 33-year-old finally achieved his great ambition in February when riding out his claim but twin battles with the scales and the cost of living have convinced him it is now time to try something else.

"The weight isn't as good as it used to be," said Jones, who reported that, after a single day of eating normally, he is already up to 11st. "I can't run because of the injuries I've had. What with losing the saunas at the races, keeping my weight down has not been easy at all.
