No joy for Wuheida as Schiergen steals Oaks show yet again
Report: Germany, Sunday
Dusseldorf: 159th Henkel-Preis der Diana - German Oaks (Group 1) 1m3f | 3yo fillies | turf
Godolphin's Wuheida, the only Group 1 winner in the field and the one to beat according to her connections and those of her rivals, could manage only third in the German Oaks behind Lacazar, who provided Peter Schiergen with his fourth win in the race.
Trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, Wuheida won the Prix Marcel Boussac last year and went off favourite after finishing a fine second to Roly Poly in the Falmouth on her previous start. However, she could not go with Lacazar and Megera, who pulled clear to finish first and second.
A daughter of 2007 German Derby victor Adlerflug, Lacazar was ridden by Andrasch Starke, who was winning the Group 1 for the sixth time. Schiergen also won the race as a jockey on Risen Raven in 1994
William Haggas's Dancing Rain (2011) is the sole British-trained winner of the German Oaks, which was opened to international competition in 1992.
