Nicol calls for young riders' claims to be rejigged

Adam Nicol, who lost his right to claim at Sedgefield on Thursday, has proposed that the structure surrounding young jockeys’ claiming rights should be looked at and revised.

Nicol will now have to ride on level terms with the senior jockeys after partnering his landmark 75th winner aboard Nautical Nitwit, trained by his boss Philip Kirby, but reckons his task will be no more difficult than when he was claiming 3lb.

He said: “In my opinion it will be a positive riding at levels because I don’t think I was getting any more rides because of my 3lb claim. I was getting rides because I was willing to ride work for as many trainers as possible rather than anything to do with the claim.
