Waaheb and Timiyan to transfer yards as Weld concentrates on the Flat
Dermot Weld will not have any horses running in the legendary green and gold silks of JP McManus this summer after Waaheb and Timiyan were transferred to other trainers.
Both horses will have their first start for their new trainers in the McHale Coranna Handicap Hurdle at Ballinrobe on Tuesday evening, with Weld saying that he is concentrating on his Flat string for the summer months.
Weld said on Monday: “We don’t have as many jumpers any more and will have very few to run over obstacles as we'll be concentrating on the Flat.”
Waaheb, beaten a short head in the 2011 Champion Bumper at Punchestown and a winner of eight races under Weld's care, has made the switch to Christy Roche.
Timiyan, who has won just once since McManus parted with €470,000 for him at the Goffs Champion sale in 2014, has joined Gordon Elliott.
McManus’s racing manager Frank Berry said: “Dermot doesn’t have as many jumpers any more as he's concentrating on the Flat. Both horses will go chasing this summer.”
