Scotland may have lost the Ayr Gold Cup to the elements, but they have now been given the chance to reclaim it, as Keith Dalgleish intends to confirm both Glenrowan Rose and Clem Fandango for the replacement race due to take place on Saturday.

The BHA confirmed on Monday that the race would be staged at Haydock as the 32Red Gold Cup and would be worth £90,000 – the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup would have been run for £200,000. Confirmations for the race will be made on Tuesday.

With the race taking place this weekend, Dalgleish confirmed Scotland would now be represented in the race, where it would not have been had last week's meeting survived.

Both Dalgleish horses had the Listed fillies' race last Friday as their target, and the trainer said: "The intention is to confirm Glenrowan Rose tomorrow. It's a possibility for Clem Fandango as well, and they both go with a bit of cut in the ground."

The race may now be run under a different guise but it has not escaped the rain which cost Ayr its three-day meeting. The 20mm of rain forecast for Haydock has forced clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright to predict the replacement race will take place on ground no fast than soft, with heavy a distinct possibility.

Despite the wet forecast Tellwright does not believe the new contest is at risk.

"I wouldn't think it's in any danger," he said before adding: "We have 20mm of rain to come and it would be at least soft on that basis.

"We're currently soft, heavy in places, with a wet week in prospect, so I expect we'll be somewhere in that location come the weekend."
