Farrelly denies swearing at fellow trainer Jones in Newbury outburst

Stewards at Newbury on Wednesday were forced into action earlier than they might have anticipated when Alan Jones accused fellow trainer Johnny Farrelly of verbally abusing him in the weighing room before racing.

Jones alleged he was confronted by Farrelly over a horse they used to train, Spin Cast, who went from Jones to Farrelly and has now retired, saying his counterpart's outburst left him shocked.

"It was improper conduct for a trainer to come in shouting and screaming and raising his voice," said Jones, a former jockey who used to ride Mr Frisk.

"I've never been involved in a situation like this. The language and verbal assault wasn't tasteful – I'd expect it at a football match but not in the weighing room at Newbury."

Farrelly, however, denied swearing at Jones and apologised, while his explanation was noted by stewards.

He said: "I didn't verbally abuse him and in the stewards' room I said, 'Look, if you're offended with the way I spoke to you, I apologise'.

"We had a discussion over a horse we used to have, but there was no big issue. If I used that bad language I'm sure the stewards would have said something. It was a mountain out of a molehill."
