Godolphin to throw doors open to the public at two-day event

Godolphin are to reopen their doors as part of this year's 32Red Newmarket open weekend in September, which this time around has been brought forward a week.

The two major Newmarket sites of Sheikh Mohammed's organisation at Moulton Paddocks and Godolphin Stables are sure to be a big draw with the public, just as they were when first opened in 2015.

The major change to this year's two-day event is that it is now on the non-racing days of Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 of September, which it is hoped will give visitors time to get around the many attractions.

As well as the yard openings, the new National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art at Palace House is expected to be a popular hub, as will the food and drink festival which will be held around the town over the two days rather than on the Rowley Mile.

Sara Cumani, chair of the Newmarket open weekend, said: "Just for this year we have had to separate the weekend from the racing due to conflicts in the calendar.

"With racing at the Rowley Mile taking place on the following Saturday when we do intend to have the guest commentators again which has been won for the last two years by William Haggas."

She added: "We now have the brilliant new facilities at the National Heritage Centre to work with and can set the wheels in motion to bring the food and drink festival to to the centre of town. The popular showjumping, which last year was won by Michael Hills, will this year be staged at the Peter O'Sullevan outdoor arena at Palace House."
