Durcan fractures ankle in Leicester spill
Ted Durcan will be on the sidelines after fracturing his left ankle at Leicester on Saturday. The jockey was unshipped from unplaced juvenile Plundered after the winning post in a 5f novice race, and was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary, where the injury was confirmed.
Speaking on Sunday, Durcan said: "I had my ankle x-rayed which confirmed the fracture. I'll see my specialist on Tuesday morning, it will need operating on and hopefully I'll have the operation as soon as possible."
Durcan has had wretched luck with ankle injuries in recent months, as he fractured his right ankle at Kempton last October when involved in the four-horse pile-up that left Freddy Tylicki paralysed from the waist down. He returned to the saddle in March and had ridden three winners from 43 rides.
"It couldn't happen at a worse time with the season starting in earnest," Durcan added.
