Doncaster is turned into Nazi Germany for film about Berlin Olympics
Doncaster racecourse was on Tuesday turned into a film set that saw the racecourse playing home to a recreation of the 1936 Berlin Olympics complete with swastika flags and actors in Nazi uniforms.
Officials at the home of the St Leger were tight-lipped about the goings-on at the track, but it is believed Bollywood producers are on Town Moor for a film about India's first Olympic gold medal after its independence from Britain in 1947.
York City's football ground, Bootham Crescent, has also been used to recreate scenes from the 1936 Olympics in Berlin for Gold, which is due to be released next year.
Written and directed by Reema Kagti, the movie tells the story of the gold medal won by India's hockey team in the men's competition at the 1948 Olympics in London.
Doncaster clerk of the course Roderick Duncan said it was the first time in his four years at the track filming like this had taken place.
"Doncaster is hosting a film crew who are filming a period drama with the racecourse being used to create scenes from the 1936 Berlin Olympics," read a statement from the racecourse, which hosts its most important fixture of the year next month with the four-day meeting culminating with the St Leger on September 16.
