Death of former photographer of the year Anne Grossick
Anne Grossick, the 2001 HWPA photographer of the year, has died aged 64 following a battle with cancer.
Grossick and her husband John, who won the award the year before, run an equine photography business with their children Pam and Johnny, covering racecourses from Perth to Cheltenham and most in between.
John Grossick said: "I first met Anne when she beat me in a pony race at Musselburgh when I was 12. We worked for Commander Crawford, whose daughter Susan is a well-known artist, in Haddington and got married at 19.
"She borrowed Mrs Crawford's camera to take her first pictures. I was riding as an amateur and Anne started taking the photos when I was busy riding, and we worked away from there with the business.
"We were a real team and back in the day of negatives we'd swap between races, one taking the race photos and the other running them into town to get developed.
"Anne had such a love of horses – she had a few racehorses in retirement, the last one being Supertop – and all animals, and at the races she knew everybody from the gatemen to the owners."
Funeral arrangements will be made in due course.
