Hollie Doyle's apprentice title hopes have suffered a blow after the rider broke her collarbone in a fall at Goodwood on Friday evening.

The rising star, whose 13 winners this season have propelled her to the head of the apprentice standings, fell from Pearl Spectre after crossing the line following the second race, a 7f handicap, and was taken to St Richard's Hospital in nearby Chichester for treatment.

Doyle, who has ridden 34 winners in total in 2017, will travel to Oaksey House on Monday, when she is hoping to get a clearer idea on the extent and impact of her injury.

"I'm just a bit gutted really," she said on Saturday. "I'm going to Oaksey House on Monday to see what the next step is."

The broken collarbone is the latest injury setback for the unlucky Doyle, who missed a young jockeys' competition in Italy in March after being knocked out in a fall while riding work at home.

She then spent a night in hospital in April after being knocked out again, this time in a fall at Redcar, after which she had to pass a concussion test.
