Appeal for witnesses after unprovoked Cheltenham Festival assault
Police are appealing for information after a 22-year-old Bristol man suffered a fractured cheekbone following an unprovoked attack at the Cheltenham Festival last month.
The racegoer had to undergo surgery following the attack on Gold Cup Friday, March 16, when he was on his phone in the open area of the Best Mate enclosure at Prestbury Park.
"He was approached by an unknown man and punched in the face," said a Gloucestershire police spokeswoman.
"The incident happened at approximately 5.15pm and the victim suffered a fractured cheekbone which required surgery.
"At the time of the incident the victim was wearing a distinctive light pink suit and was in a crowded area. Police have exhausted all other lines of inquiry and are now appealing for the public's help to identify the offender.
"The suspect is believed to be around 35 to 40 years old, with short dark hair and of a medium build. Police are asking for anyone who witnessed this assault to call police on 101 quoting incident 459 of 16 March."
