Newmarket pays tribute to the Queen as stars come out on day two of open weekend

Newmarket paid a respectful tribute to the Queen on the eve of her funeral, with her horses playing a major role on day two of the Henry Cecil Open Weekend.

It was the royal colt Saga, with jockey Robert Havlin in the Queen’s famous silks, who got things under way at the Tattersalls-sponsored gallops event on Warren Hill just after 8am.

Despite the early start, there were nearly 1,000 spectators in attendance, an increase on last year and many more than organisers were anticipating.
