WATCH: final touches applied to Field Of Gold and Ombudsman ahead of Champions Day
Plus, Economics steps up his preparation ahead of eagerly awaited Champion Stakes return

The countdown to Qipco British Champions Day continued on Wednesday morning when the Al Bahathri Polytrack hosted most of the Group 1 big guns.
They included Ombudsman (Gary Forster), who headed the āThree Kingsā from the John and Thady Gosden stable at second lot. In what could be called a breeze, the Champion Stakes market leader covered seven furlongs without company, as did Queen Elizabeth II Stakes favourite Field Of Gold (Luke Catton) and then Long Distance Cup hotpot TrawlermanĀ (Benoit de la Sayette).

William Buick will ride Ombudsman and Trawlerman at Ascot and was back among the Clarehaven ranks to have a first sit on his Queen Elizabeth II Stakes mountĀ Carl Spackler, who enjoyed a similar exercise in company.
