Classic contender put through his paces and Varian stalwart primed to make a splash at Sandown

Varian eyes Sandown prize
Roger Varian won Sandown's Group 2 Bet365 Mile last year with subsequent triple Group 1 winner Charyn and he may well have another live hope this time around with Tyrrhenian Sea.
The distinctive grey was easy to pick out on the Limekilns on Saturday morning when Jack Mitchell fired him up the trial ground ahead of Friday's contest. The seven-year-old proved a revelation when dropped back to a mile at Lingfield last time, beating the classy Maljoom, and he could well have found his ideal trip.
Also impressing from the Varian stable was the once-raced filly Gulya partnered by Silvestre de Sousa, who was recently crowned UAE champion jockey.
