Newbury race to aid Racing Welfare and children's charity

Newbury: stages the charity race at 5.20 this evening
1 of 1

The George Frewer Memorial Race precedes racing at Newbury this evening with ten members of stable staff riding for their boss in the mile event (5.20).

First staged in 2008, the contest, supported by the National Trainers Federation, will raise money for Racing Welfare as part of Racing Staff Week and Ufton Court, a children’s charity working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Victoria Pendleton rode in the race in 2015 and this year's renewal features stable staff from yards including Mark Johnston, Eve Johnson Houghton and Ralph Beckett.

Among the riders competing is Isabelle Mangan, daughter of former jump jockey Roy Mangan, who is travelling head girl for Martin Keighley and rides Jazzy.

Dallon Holmes, a graduate of the British Racing School and an aspiring amateur rider, partners King Of Dreams for David Simcock, while Maisie Beth Wood, rider of the Jamie Osborne-trained Golden Raven, harbours ambitions of taking out an apprentice licence in the future.
