Colin Tizzard’s latest big-race winner proved costly for Newbury racecourse as well as the bookmakers on Saturday.

The Hennessy Gold Cup rarely fails to deliver a thriller but Newbury took the precaution of revving up business by offering the first 500 racegoers to book their £35 grandstand tickets online the chance of getting a freebie.

Yes, you've guessed it. The free day's racing kicked in if Native River won the Hennessy and the 7-2 favourite’s half-length victory cost Newbury a cool £17,500.
