Philip Hide has reiterated he will cease training this month, despite having a runner at Brighton on Monday, after a barren spell caused by this summer's heatwave left the former jump jockey with no choice but to wind down his business in West Sussex.

Speaking at Brighton, where his course regular Black Caesar finished fifth of six in a 7f handicap, Hide said: "Nothing has changed. If I can get a run into Black Caesar before the end of the month, then all well and good. Everything's done, he's the only one I've really got left.

"Ideally he wants softer ground than he’s had today. It was a case of if he didn’t run today then it might not happen. He can’t run for me after this month."
