Native Trail now odds-on for 2,000 Guineas plus an intriguing maiden at Yarmouth
The 2022 Flat season is picking up pace and it is full steam ahead to the first of the Classics – the Qipco 2,000 Guineas and 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket – on April 30 and May 1.
Market movers come thick and fast as the key Classic trials are run in Britain and Ireland, but big-race contenders can come from anywhere and it is easy to miss a potential dark horse. Our Classic Clues series, which runs every morning, has you covered.
Here's a recap of the action on Monday and how it has impacted the Classic betting, while we mark your card with key names to note on Tuesday.
Racing round-up: a Derby entrant at Southwell and Guineas forfeits
After success in various trials for the team of Charlie Appleby and William Buick, Godolphin fired in another Classic entrant at Southwell, this time trained by Saeed bin Suroor.
The Newmarket handler sent out two Derby entrants in the mile novice stakes, with newcomer White Wolf taking the spoils, staying on well to get the better of more experienced rivals.
A more impressive performance would have put more faith in his Epsom entry but Return To Dubai, who finished fourth, may have his dreams of Derby glory cut short.
Elsewhere at Naas, Emily Dickinson was trimmed in the betting for the Oaks after getting off the mark at the third time of asking in the 1m2f fillies' maiden.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained filly was halved in price to 33-1 (from 66) by SkyBet but is 25-1 with most firms after scoring by a neck under Ryan Moore and reversing the form with Red Azalea.
Emily Dickinson, who could aim to provide O'Brien a seventh Oaks win in the last decade, also holds entries for the Irish 1,000 Guineas and the Irish Oaks with the runner-up only entered in the latter.
Monday also saw the forfeit stage for the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas this weekend and there were no shocks to match the withdrawal of the fillies' Classic favourite Inspiral on Sunday, although Dermot Weld did reveal that second favourite Homeless Songs is only '50-50' to run at Newmarket.
Nell Gwyn winner Cachet was among 16 left in the 1,000 Guineas, with her potential opposition including the Aidan O'Brien-trained favourite Tenebrism, with the top four in the market all based in Ireland.

Craven Stakes winner Native River was among 19 colts confirmed on course for the 2,000 Guineas and he is now odds-on with some firms to take home the prize.

What they said
Pat Cosgrave, rider of White Wolf
He’s a big, raw individual and was quite coltish at the start and inexperienced early on, but he showed his talent at the end and finished nicely. He’s strengthening up and learning all the time and this was a good place to start him off. The vibes were good beforehand and he’s nice. It’s hard to gauge his ability at this stage, but he’s got lots of potential and could be very good.
Harry Herbert, head of Highclere Racing, owners of Cachet
I saw her this morning and she looks absolutely fantastic. She's got an incredible temperament and doesn't turn a hair with her racing and I've never seen her look so bright, or full or as well ever. She seems to be thriving and the Nell Gwyn seems to have brought her on again. George couldn't be happier with her and, having seen her with my own eyes, it's likewise for me.
All eyes on… potential Derby horses at Yarmouth
Yarmouth hosts a mile maiden (2.10) which features two reopposing rivals, with a watching brief advised on Knight Of Honour who holds an entry for the Dante and the Derby.
The John and Thady Gosden-trained Classic hopeful was a close third on his racecourse debut, finishing a shoulder behind fellow Dante entrant Akhu Najla who he faces again.
The Roger Varian-trained performer is entered in the Dante and Irish 1,000 Guineas, rather than the Derby, but could an impressive performance tempt connections to supplement him for the Epsom Classic?
