The shock news that Classic-winning trainer David Wachman is set to retire from training at the end of the season is a clear sign of how tough the game is, according to Johnny Murtagh.

The pair enjoyed many memorable moments together, most notably when Murtagh partnered the Wachman-trained Bushranger to win the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes in 2008, and Again to land the Irish 1,000 Guineas the following year, and Murtagh expressed his sadness at the news of Wachman's exit from the game.

“It is very sad news and I was disappointed to hear it,” he said. “It just goes to show you how tough a game this is. He was a Group 1-winning trainer last year and now he's retiring.
