MP Robertston claims EU vote could help funding for racing

'State aid no longer a barrier to extending levy overseas'

The recently re-elected joint-chairman of the all-party parliamentary group that looks after the concerns of racing has claimed that extending the levy to firms based outside of the UK will become easier following Britain's vote to leave the EU.

Laurence Robertson MP told the Racing Post: "The government is looking at ways of extending the levy to overseas operators, and this has been made much more doable by the vote to leave the EU.

"State aid is no longer a barrier to this move. I do feel that this change needs to be introduced fairly, so that bookmakers, who provide so much money for racing in various forms, don't go bankrupt."
