Hughie Morrison's head girl Barbara Dare suffered broken ribs, a punctured lung and damage to her spleen when kicked in the parade ring at Newbury on Saturday, the trainer has revealed.

Dare was helping to keep the public out of the way of Morrison's Top Beak, who was being led up by her husband Andy before the mile handicap, when she was struck.

She remains in hospital but has been moved from intensive care.

Morrison said: "She is still in hospital and they are describing her condition as comfortable. She was moved from intensive care on to a ward on Sunday night and she is being kept in for observation.

"She has suffered some broken ribs, a punctured lung and damage to her spleen. She is obviously in an awful lot of pain but the doctors have decided she doesn't need an operation.

He added: "By trying to save the other people she ended up getting kicked herself."
