More Del Mar delight for Brown as Off Limits lands Matriarch Stakes

Off Limits quickens well to secure her biggest win
1 of 1

Report: USA, Sunday

Del Mar: Matriarch Stakes (Grade 1) 1m | turf | 3yo+ fillies

Chad Brown, who scooped two Grade 1 prizes at the Breeders' Cup at Del Mar this month, returned to the track for another notable win on Sunday when Off Limits (Joel Rosario) quickened by former Hugo Palmer inmate Hawksmoor.

The daughter of Mastercraftsman, who won a Listed race at Killarney when trained in Ireland by the now retired David Wachman, was earning the biggest success of her career as she pulled a length clear of the second, with Insta Erma third and 27-10 favourite Cambodia fourth.

It was a first victory in the $300,000 event for Brown, a major force in turf races in the States, but a third since 2010 for jockey Rosario, who said: "She's got that great turn of foot. That's what makes her so special. And she wants to win. When she sees horses in front of her, she wants to go get them."
