The jumps trainers' title race between old rivals Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson could still go right to the wire and the standout race on Wincanton's card, the 2m4f novice chase (2.45), looks a another straight shootout between the big two.

Henderson is represented by the talented Jenkins, who has made a solid start over fences, and Nicholls saddles Secret Investor, who should find this assignment more his cup of tea after bumping into Bags Groove and Ok Corral on his last two starts.

Naas toasted the beginning of the Irish Flat season yesterday but there are no such British turf meetings quite yet, with Doncaster due to stage its curtain-raising card on Saturday.

Lingfield and Wolverhampton provide all-weather racing to support Wincanton's action today.

Final thought

The Flat is back but there are still plenty of big races over jumps to relish and, with the Aintree and Punchestown festivals not a million miles away, it would be nice to see bookmakers attempt to price up some of the key races at these meetings well in advance.
