Michael Owen to join Ed Chamberlin as presenter at Godolphin staff awards
England football legend Michael Owen will join Ed Chamberlin as a guest presenter at the 2018 Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards at the Jumeriah Carlton Tower Hotel in London on February 19.
Owen, who enjoyed a stellar club and international career from the moment he launched himself on to the international stage with that memorable goal against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup, has enjoyed plenty of success as an owner and breeder since retiring, with dual Group 1 winner Brown Panther his most notable success. He owns Tom Dascombe's Manor Farm Stables.
Owen, who recently finished second in a charity race at Ascot on his race-riding debut, said: "I've had a lifelong love of horseracing and having been lucky enough to get more involved in the sport as an owner and breeder since retiring from football, I've witnessed just how hard the staff work and how much they care for their horses.
"These awards are a great chance to recognise the thousands of hours that go in away from the cameras and to say thank you. I can't wait to meet the winners and I'm sure it will be an exciting and inspiring night."
This year is the 14th edition of the awards that recognise the skills, commitment and contribution of racing's 6,000 stud and stable staff. There is more than £120,000 in prize-money on offer for 18 finalists at the event, run by the BHA in association with the Racing Post, with up to £40,000 available to a single yard or stud.
