Trainers warn of 'balancing act' between Sunday racing and staff welfare

National Trainers Federation (NTF) president Emma Lavelle has added her voice to concerns that racing is asking too much of its workforce, warning that only "serious pots" can justify late-finishing Sunday fixtures.

Lavelle was responding to comments from George McGrath, the chief executive of the National Association of Racing Staff, who said in Tuesday's Racing Post that stable staff were generally averse to more Sunday meetings and lacked sufficient downtime.

McGrath was discussing the new Sky Bet Sunday Series, which will run over three Flat meetings this summer beginning at Musselburgh on July 25, and carries increased prize-money and coverage on ITV4.
