There would be nothing improper about stewards taking a tougher stance on riders

This starts off as a tale of two ten-day suspensions.

Let us begin last Tuesday at Perth, where only one of the six starters finished the novices' handicap chase. The stewards determined none of those six starters should have finished. The stewards were right.

Revisit the closing stages and it is easy to see the sole remaining runner Im Too Generous went lame soon after jumping the final fence. As Nathan Moscrop failed to immediately dismount the horse he was handed a ten-day ban. Winning part-owner John Dance described the punishment as "incredibly harsh". It was no such thing, a view perhaps supported by the fact no appeal has been lodged.
