A chance mid-morning encounter on the Newmarket gallops was behind the victory of Grey Britain in the Listed Fairway Stakes, in which Gerald Mosse rode his second winner on the Rowley Mile in as many days.

The Frenchman, who was due to fly to ride in Tunisia on Sunday, was rerouted to the track as a replacement on John Ryan's stable star.

It all worked out well when the former champion jockey rode a perfect waiting race in front and had just enough in the tank to hold the late thrust of Desert Skyline.
