Jenningsbet boss warns that resumption without shops will cause more damage

Racing has been warned that its resumption could have serious unintended consequences for its finances the longer the sport carries on without betting shops being open.

Greg Knight, managing director of the UK's largest independent betting shop chain Jenningsbet, warned the move would accelerate the switch of betting from retail to online, causing another wave of betting shop closures and resulting in a fall in media rights income.

However, Knight said he recognised why the sport would want to resume as quickly as possible.
