They say a change is as good as a break, but a break was more than enough for Khafoo Shememi who put a 95-day absence behind him to win his second Listed contest over course and distance this year.

It has taken time for the penny to drop for this Dark Angel colt, but he finally seems to be getting the hang of what being a racehorse entails. Given his mid-season sojourn and the ease with which he handled a surface many described as on the easy side, he is one to go to war with over the backend of the season.

Tom Ward, Richard Hannon’s assistant, said: “We gave him a break and he’s really grown up – he’s learning how to race and he’s more adaptable. He’s not quite the finished article yet but he’s getting there.
